Thomas Priestley, aged 10, from Mytholmroyd, who attends Calderdale Music Services at Heath Training Centre in Halifax, has gained a place at the prestigious Chetham’s School of Music for September 2014.
Thomas will join Year 6 and plans to study the alto saxophone, piano, tuned percussion and drums.
During the time he is at the school, which is based in the heart of Manchester, as well as receiving academic and music tuition at the highest level, Thomas will have the opportunity to play in chamber groups, choirs and school orchestras and take part in concerts held regularly in key music venues such as the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
Mrs Belinda Broadhead, deputy head of Calderdale Music Services, is delighted with Thomas’ achievement and said: “Thomas has made outstanding progress in all specialisms during the short time he has been learning. He shows dedication and commitment in all areas and is a valued member of the many Calderdale ensembles he plays with. Everyone at Calderdale Music Service sends Thomas their very best wishes for his future studies at Chetham’s School of Music and look forward to hearing about his progress.”
Thomas is extremely excited about commencing his studies at Chetham’s and very thankful to his friend Harry who initially introduced him to music via the Samba Ensemble at Calderdale Music Services, two years ago.
