Thief stole from shop

Court report

Court report

A burglar stole building equipment worth £650 from a Hebden Bridge shop.

Daniel Jones, 33, of Hangingroyd Lane. Hebden Bridge, broke into the shop on Market Street on December 8, 2013.

The commercial property had recently been purchased by a new owner and was undergoing renovations when Jones broke in through a back door.

Calderdale Magistrates’ Court heard he caused around £60 worth of damage to the door before making off with the building equipment.

Police found his blood at the scene which led to his arrest.

The court heard that Jones had a drug problem and was waiting for his benefits to come through. He said he stole because he needed food but regretted his actions.

Magistrates gave him a 12-month community order, a nine-month drug rehabilitation order and he will pay compensation and costs totalling £135.
