Tender moments as part of heritage day...

A horse-drawn fire tender unit dating back 100 years will be on display in Hebden Bridge on Saturday.

The vehicle, which would have been typical of its type when the Hebden Bridge fire station opened as an extension to the Town Hall in 1898, will be on display on the Market Place car park from 10am.

Before the advent of the combustion engine, burning buildings were often attended by a local fire service using a horse-drawn tender.

The unit is being hired for the day from the Fire and Police Museum and the event, part of the Heritage Open Days weekend, will also allow people to put forward their opinions as part of a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund. Hebden Bridge Community Association aims to develop a heritage project and if the bid is successful important restoration to the old Town Hall building would reflect the pride which those who were responsible for its construction had in their town.
