A GLITTERING career has seen hair artist Karen Hood travel the world showcasing her talents.

And now the award-winning stylist has joined the team at Zeitgeist, Carlton Street, Hebden Bridge.

Karen, originally from Rossendale, trained with Vidal Sassoon in Manchester, which is where she first worked with Zeitgeist owner Deborah Wilkinson.

“It’s great to be working with Deborah again,” said Karen. “The team at Zeitgeist is absolutely world class and I’m really excited to be part of it.”

Karen flew through the Vidal Sassoon ranks to become head of the company’s prestigious diploma course in London.

Her role as top stylist and teacher took her all over Europe and beyond, including a six-month spell at Sassoon’s Munich salon.

And one of her career highlights was being invited to demonstrate her talents for the launch of the Chinese edition of Estetica magazine in Shanghai. “I love my job,” said Karen. “In fact, it doesn’t really feel like work at all. I’ve met some wonderful people and I’ve seen some amazing places.”

In 2000 Karen, whose Mum is also a hairdresser, was named Vidal Sassoon Teacher of the Year after just 18 months at the company’s London teaching school.

Her prize was to spend a month at the Sassoon academy in Santa Monica, which she followed with a Thelma and Louise-style road trip across California.

When she’s not creating beautiful hair styles Karen likes to pursue her other passion of scuba diving and is a member of the Rossendale Sub Aqua Club.

She has dived in such amazing locations as the Maldives and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, although one of her favourite diving spots is Wastwater in the Lake District.

“I’ve been scuba diving with my Dad since I was a little girl and I love it,” she said.
