Spring clean with a twist

YOU’RE invited to give your spring cleaning a whole new twist this Saturday (April 9) and join in the Hebden Bridge Transition Town Give Away Free Day.

The group is organising a goods swap where you leave your unwanted stuff outside your house labelled as “free” and anyone interested in giving it a new home can take it away for nothing.

The idea is you get rid of your junk and someone else gets something they can use.

There are two ways you can take part in this day of community recycling. You can organise something informally in your own street just among your neighbours.

Or to take part in the town wide event you can register by texting 07759 059410 and your goods will be marked on a map which will be on display in St George’s Square so people will know you have things to give away. Then label them clearly and leave them outside your house. The map will be up in the Square from 10am.

“You can leave items on a table or a rug or just in a pile so long as they are clearly marked so people know they can take them,” said one of the Transition Town group.

“One person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure. What you don’t want could turn out to be just what your neighbour needs.”

But the group asked those keen to take part to respect other people’s homes and belongings and not to take anything not clearly labelled as available.
