Police investigating allegations of malicious communications following the death of teacher Ann Maguire arrested a 42-year-old man on Saturday (May 3).

Detective Inspector Peter Corley said: “The man, who is from the Port Talbot area of Wales, and was arrested there, remains in police custody.”

The arrest came shortly after police charged a Leeds man with malicious communications following the death of Mrs Maguire.

Jake Newsome, 21, from Harehills, was bailed to appear before Leeds Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 14.

Mrs Maguire was stabbed on April 28 at Corpus Christi Catholic College on Neville Road, Leeds.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with Mrs Maguire’s murder.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to stand trial in November.
