School opening its doors to parents of the Calder Valley

The newest primary school in the upper Calder valley is opening its doors to anyone interested in finding out more about the school and what it can offer.

Calder Valley Steiner school, based at the St John’s Centre, Church Bank, Cragg Vale, will be opening its doors from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Tuesday, March 12.

The school was rated as ‘good’ in its first Ofsted inspection last year and is one of a growing number of Steiner schools around the country.

A spokesperson said the Steiner model offers an alternative in education with equal emphasis placed on social, physical, spiritual and intellectual aspects of the child.

Helen Corney, a teacher at the school, said: “Our school offers a beautiful nurturing space for children to really thrive.

“We provide an unhurried and creative environment where children can develop a love of learning.

“Our open day will give people an insight into the school and the Steiner ethos.

“As well as opportunities to find out more about the school, there’ll be a range of engaging seasonal activities for all children.

“It’ll be an enjoyable and memorable day for everyone.”

The school currently offers two kindergartens for children aged three to six and one mixed age class.

Residents with young children of 0- 3 years can also access the parent and child groups, which the school also operates.

A spokesperson said the school aims to be inclusive, welcoming children from all abilities, faiths, and backgrounds so that wonderful education is available to all.

The school is affiliated to the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship and as such is part of a worldwide network of schools that have been successfully educating youngsters for over 90 years.
