Safety group will raise issues over buses and speeders

Road safety campaigners will raise a number of concerns they have about reversing buses when a bus company operations manager can be present in person.

Mr Kadim Hussain, operations manager of First Bus in Calderdale had intended to attend Todmorden Accident Prevention Council’s February meeting but had to cancel at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

The council has a number of issues it hopes to raise with him, relating to reversing buses.

Secretary Mr Derrick Kershaw said a resident near the Halifax Road bus depot had advised him that buses were reversing out of the garage onto Halifax Road, sometimes with supervvision, sometimes without.

They also said yellow school buses had been seen reversing onto Horsfall Street at Lobb Mill, which was a private road, and into the gateway of Scaitcliffe Hall, also a private road if beyond the gateposts, sometimes with passengers on board.

Members are concerned by the issues and PCSO Helliwell, who attended the meeting, to raise the matter with officers at Todmorden Police Station.

A number of other matters were discussed by members, including contact made with the council by the Hebden Bridge based Upper Calder Valley Renaissance, who were concerned about speeding drivers.

Mr Kershaw said the group had written to the council for guidance as Todmorden Accident Prevention Council seemed to be more successful in tackling the problem.

UCVR representatives attened Ward Forum meetings but so far had only minimal impact on the problem.

Members agreed the secretary should reply to the UCVR email with its views on the matter.

Todmorden Accident Prevention Council next meets on Tuesday, April 16, in the community meeting room at Todmorden Fire Station, Stansfield Road, Todmorden (7.15pm).
