River levels drop overnight but there is more rain to come - EA warns people to be vigilant, sandbags distributed

ROADS and other transport links were running normally this morning - save for some delays for rail passengers due to the wet conditions.
River levels in Calderdale dropped overnight, says the Environment Agency, but have warned that more rain is expected through the rest of the day and levels will rise again.
This morning the draianage system was taking surface water and road conditions were slightly better than yesterday evening, when half the main Halifax Road at Callis was covered with surface water and other areas were also affected.
The River Calder remains on flood alert status along the upper Calder Valley. This morning the Environment Agency reported that river levels have fallen through the night but 20 to 30 mm of rain is still expected through today. Accordingly, levels are predicted to rise to similar levels to yesterday later in the afternoon.
Bus services are running normally and the rail line is open although water on and around the track at Walsden has meant delays. Northern Rail reports this morning that trains are running normally but services are subject to delays due to the bad weather and travellers should adjust their journey times tpo take this into account.
Sandbags were distributed in Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd last night.
The EA has warned people to remain vigilant and it continues to monitor the situation.
