Upper Calder Valley firefighters are blazing a trail after their contribution to a charity calendar raised a sizzling £17,000 for good causes.

Mytholmroyd retained firefighters Luke Cannon and Andrew Ball - Mr July and Mr October respectively - lit up thousands of faces when the calendars hit the streets at the end of last year.

And now the funds are in from the sale of 4,600 copies, the men are delighted that their toned torsos have helped raise so much cash, paving the way for another calendar next year.

Andrew said: “The 2013 Red hot dates calendar was a great success.

“It has been a great effort from all the people involved in the calendar, and particularly in our local area from the crew members at Mytholmroyd fire station who have always been willing volunteers, in whatever the event may be, from car washes to raising money for calendar printing costs, to selling the calendars themselves.

“There has been some hard work displayed from the firefighters in their fund-raising roles, and more recently some fun times where they served at the charity calendar-related fund-raising event ‘In the heat of the night’, which was a great success and has proved to be in popular demand for another event to be held in the future.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in the last 12 months, and a big thank you to everyone for supporting the whole process and its related events. It has been a great achievement to be able to raise such amounts and for so many great worthwhile causes.”

Organiser, Station Commander Dom Furby, said: “We knew Red Hot Dates would be popular because the calendar has enjoyed a great amount of success in the past, but we never expected such an incredible response. I can promise you that we’ll be back soon with an even hotter calendar, so please let me know on 01274 655807 if you would like to offer your support, through sponsorship or by selling them in your outlet.”

In a final push to boost the coffers for next year’s calendar, a ‘70s fancy dress disco has been organised for April 26 at The Frontier, Batley. Tickets, £15, from the Red Hot Dates website at www.redhotdates.org.uk or by calling 01274 682311.
