Rail station cafe reopens after break-in

Hebden Bridge station cafe Coffe Station reopened for business on Friday, 20 hours after a break-in

Commuters’ anger that a much-appreciated business was burgled overnight on Wednesday turned to joy when it reopened today (Friday, March 8).

The Coffee Station, at Hebden Bridge railway station, had its windows smashed by raiders and the scene was cordoned off on Thursday while police and British Transport Police examined the interior.

Gary Gothard, of Cragg Builders, repaired the windows on Thursday and the cafe reopened for business as usual on Friday morning.

Commuter Paul Clarke said: “The warm welcome and great brews in the Station Cafe are a huge help in making commuting bearable, especially during the winter. There is a real sense of anger that this fantastic local business has been targeted. Our thoughts are with the owners who just don’t deserve this.

“We were delighted to see the Station Cafe reopen only 24 hours after it was raided. It was especially welcome on such a grim valley morning.”

The business was the latest premises to be targeted by raiders in the upper Calder Valley. Old Town Cricket Club was broken into twice - on Wednesday, February 27 and Monday, March 4 - when alcohol and chocolate was stolen.

Mytholmroyd Tennis Club and Mytholmroyd Bowling Club were targeted on the night of Wednesday, February 27, with vandals letting off a fire extinguisher inside the bowling club.

Police have asked anyone with information about any of the raids to contact them on 101.
