Praise for troubled school's kids club
THE organisers of an out of school club attached to a failing Luddenden school have been praised by inspectors.
Staff provide a well-planned range of activities, welfare policies and procedures are good and the club effectively promotes equal opportunities.
"The overall quality of provision at Luddenden Dene Out of School Club is good," according to the Office for Standards in Education.
The findings are in stark contrast to a report on Luddenden Dene Church of England Primary School which was put into special measures after being inspected.
Former head Simon Day resigned partly as a result of poor test results.
The club, which has 69 children on roll, was set up in 1997 and is managed by a committee of parents who employ five members of staff.
"As a result of their dedication and active support, children make good progress in learning beneficial skills."
The children enjoy healthy breakfasts, after school snacks, a good range of toys, games and activities.
Children have access to the school hall and playground in the mornings, evenings and during school holidays.
"Children regularly access a wide range of external resources which help to support healthy exercise and physical development," according to Ofsted.
Council officers have been working in the school since September in a bid to improve test results.
