A 59-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage after allegedly going on a JCB rampage at a tip in Todmorden on Saturday morning.
The Eastwood Recycling Centre, on Halifax Road, Todmorden, will be closed until further notice following the incident which also saw a cabin set on fire.
The man, believed to be a member of staff, will appear before Calderdale Magistrates’ on Wednesday, July 30.
Calderdale Council, which has launched its own investigation following the incident at 7.44am, worked with contractor SITA to secure the site on Saturday to ensure there was no danger to the public. A temporary road closure was also put in place.
Residents are advised to use the recycling centres on Milner Royd Mearclough, Sowerby Bridge, or Lee Bank, Ovenden Road, Halifax.
