Nursery strikes gold at Harrogate Flower Show
Winning form: Michael and Alison MItchell, of Slack Top Nurseries
A prestigious Premier Gold medal was awarded to Slack Top Alpine Nursery of Hebden Bridge, for their award winning display at last week’s Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
Michael and Allison Mitchell had designed a new display, based on their alpine garden at Slack Top, which attracted a lot of positive comment.
The display featured tiered raised beds, painted in a heritage blue-grey, and planted with an array of alpine and woodland plants. A paved path was surrounded by lightweight stone troughs, also planted with alpines, including the ever popular Erigeron ‘Canary Bird’ and Zaluzianskya ‘Orange Eye’ plants.
Michael said: “In these tough economic times, people are finding that hardy alpines are a good investment as being completely hardy and perennial, they don’t need to be replaced each year.”
The nursery is open from March to the end of August, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-5pm.
