Mayor of Hebden Royd, Coun Christine Davenport, had more reason than most to celebrate the dawn of a new year.

Her 12th grandchild made an appearance on New Year’s Day - one of 13 new arrivals at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.

Coun Davenport said the baby, Louise Shannon, had weighed in at 10lbs 6oz. The youngster is the fifth child of the Mayor’s daughter, Sarah Davenport.

But Sarah and her partner Robert Kendall had to wait for their baby to make an appearance as she was due on December 19. “She was 13 days overdue but we’re delighted she’s here,” Sarah said.
