Lesley’s love of blue is a friend’s tribute

An art exhibition in memory of a much loved friend opens in Hebden Bridge Town Hall gallery on Monday.

Artist Amrik Varkalis is staging her exhibition, called Lesley’s Love of Blue, as a tribute to Lesley Fowler, who died in Overgate Hospice, Elland, in August 2010, aged 64.

Lesley lived in Old Town, Hebden Bridge, and the friends both taught at Bradford College, McMillan Building. Amrik said: “Her love of blue made me look at that particular hue in a different way.

“I was amazed by how Lesley managed to combine so many different blues in a domestic setting and that they all worked together.

“Lesley was very big in people’s lives and this exhibition begins to address how much we miss her and value her.”

The exhibition, which has a private viewing on Saturday at which Lesley’s husband Alan will be present, runs until Saturday, March 2 (10am to 4pm, closed Sundays).
