Jubilee jubilations!
Jubilee celebrations at St Joseph's Primary School, Wellington Road, Todmorden
PLAYGROUNDS were filled with flags, bunting and food as schools throughout the upper Calder Valley celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
There were some familiar faces at Todmorden High School as staff dressed up as members of the Royal Family for an indoor street party.
Princes Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted in the dining hall and headteacher Helen Plaice dressed up as the Queen to help out with serving lunch.
Students also got into the fancy dress spirit by wearing red, white and blue outfits, with prizes awarded for the best costumes.
Teacher Christine Wardle said: “It’s been fantastic.”
Bunting made by the school’s hobby club adorned the hall and decorations were also provided by All Occasions and P and S Stationers.
Parents provided the refreshments for a yard party at Colden School.
Each pupil wore a crown for the day as they took part in artistic activities and sang songs.
Deputy headteacher Gillian Bowes, who organised the events, said: “Everyone enjoyed the day and had fun celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee,
“Hopefully the children will have memories of these days to take into the future.”
At Walsden St Peter’s School, children took part in a mass Union Jack kite flying during a day of Jubilee celebrations.
Pupils re-enacted the Queen’s coronation before enjoying a street party in the school playground.
Teacher John Spooner said: “It’s been a fun day. The kids really enjoyed it.”
Class one at Cragg Vale School decided their scarecrow needed a Royal makeover, so dressed it as the Queen for the Diamond Jubilee.
The children also planted summer vegetables and red, white and blue flowers for the occasion.
Teacher Alison Dawson said: “The pupils are delighted with the results.”
Pupils and staff at Todmorden C of E School celebrated with a street party and balloon race.
Children were presented with a commemorative porcelain mug by the school’s Parent Teacher Association, and a celebration copy of the New Testament was also presented by representatives from St Mary’s Church.
The playground was decorated with bunting, balloons and flags and entertainment was provided by a balloon modeller, magician and a Punch and Judy show.
Alwyn Sutcliffe, the school’s business manager said: “It was an excellent day. The weather was kind and everyone had a fantastic time.
“It is an event that will live long in the memories of both staff and children.”
A Jubilee tea party was held at Central Street Infant School.
Children made Union Jacks, bunting and crowns for the celebrations.
Teacher Sue Bladon said: “We had a good time in spite of the bad weather.”
Parents and parishioners joined pupils at St Joseph’s Primary School, Todmorden, for a Jubilee party.
Tenor Sean Ruane, one of the rising stars of the opera world, was a special guest at the event and led a singing session with the children as part of the Relay of Prayer Concerts building up to the London Olympics.
Youngsters at Valley Crew, Stubbings Infant School’s after school club, decorated the playground with bunting for a Jubilee street party.
Children at Luddendenfoot Academy looked regal as they wore crowns for their Jubilee festivities.
