A MYTHOLMROYD schoolgirl is set to become the envy of her classmates when she appears on television.

Jennifer Charlotte O’Brien, ten, is set to appear in “The Rochdale Pioneers” when it makes its TV premiere on Film 4 in November.

Part of the film was shot in Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge, which is where Jennifer was “talent spotted”. The Burnley Road Academy pupil impressed the film crew so much that they created a speaking part for her.

Jennifer said: “I am really over the moon about appearing on TV, I am really happy.

“My friends just think I am bragging, but all my family are really happy for me, especially my nana and my mum.”

The film, which stars John Henshaw of “Early Doors” fame and Brookside’s John McArdle, took in various locations in the Calder Valley, including the Birchcliffe Centre and The Cross Inn.

Owen O’Sullivan, landlord of The Cross and Jennifer’s uncle, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant that Jennifer will be on TV. She’s just one of those chatty girls and we’re so proud of her. The film crew were a very nice bunch of people.”

People from all across the Calder Valley also appear as extras in the film, which was made by The Co-operative British Youth Film Academy.

The movie, commissioned by The Co-operative Group, tells the story of 28 working men from Rochdale who battled poverty and harsh working conditions to form the first co-operative. It was co-directed by John Montegrande and Adam Lee Hamilton.
