People will be invited to give their views on proposals to close Huddersfield’s A&E and centralise emergency care in Halifax after the consultation starts on Tuesday.

Up to 300 beds could be added to Calderdale Royal Hospital as it becomes the main A&E for the two districts.

Huddersfield Royal Infirmary would be replaced with a 120-bed site for planned hospital treatments at the town’s Acre Mills site.

The proposals are designed to tackle a £280m funding gap and would see the number of workers at the two hospitals reduce by more than 950.

Public meetings will be held on Thursday, April 14, from 6pm-8pm at North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax, HX3 6TE, and on Monday, April 18, from 6pm-8pm at John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield, HD1 6PG.
