Former inn will be given new lease of life

A prominent public house that has been empty and for sale for about four years is to be given a makeover by its new owners.
The Grove Inn on Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd, has been sold by estate agents Anthony J Turner to an un-named buyer based in the Calder Valley.
Ben Turner, of the Hebden Bridge-based agents, said the premises had attracted quite a bit of interest and could have been sold four or five times over. But the project required such an injection of cash to bring it back to its former glory that the amount of capital investment needed had proved a step too far for some.
Mr Turner said the deal was in the process of going through and the new owner planned to reopen the public house to sell alcohol, coffee and food. “We are satisfied that we have found the right buyer, as are the solicitors acting on behalf of the estate,” he said.Estate agents in the upper Calder Valley are upbeat about the forthcoming year despite no significant upturn in the general economy.
Claire Sheehan, of Inter County estate agents, Hebden Bridge, said the agency had seen a resurgence of interest with sales up 12 per cent in the past year.
But first-time buyers were now in their mid-30s, she said, generally investing as a couple in the price bracket of £125,000 to £150,000.
