Culture Secretary Maria Miller wants the Calder Valley to get the “maximum benefit” when the Tour de France comes to town.
At a meeting at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, she met Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker and Welcome To Yorkshire Chief Executive Gary Verity to discuss the plans for the route.
She said: “The meeting was very successful and it was fantastic to hear about the details of the route and the plans for the tour.
“It’s so important that the areas on the route get the maximum benefit possible from hosting the race, which is why I met with representatives from the hotel sector and all sorts of organisations in the area from the arts and heritage sectors and talked to them about their plans.
“It was great to get people from across the community round the table and everyone was really enthusiastic.
“I’ve been taken on some of the route and there is some beautiful countryside in this part of the world.
“I’m sure it’ll be a fantastic spectacle.”
Craig Whittaker said: “It was important to bring the minister here to have a look at the bid and bring everyone to the heart of where the really exciting bit where the Tour de France really starts! We went through our plans for the route and talked about the bid in general.
“It’s such a fantastic showcase for this area - it’s our Olympic.
“So it’s important that we get a joined up effort from everybody.”
The White Lion Hotel in Hebden Bridge is already fully booked for the Tour next year, with the route going straight past the building.
Gary Verity said the Tour would be a big boost to the area.
He said: “It’s great for this part of the country and great to have a good news story after all the flooding that has happened here recently.”
