Creative time for young textile artists

Students at Calder High School took part in a silk screen extravaganza

Year 11 and 13 students at Calder High School have had a creative few weeks working with Bradford based professional textiles artist Diane Jones.

They have been producing a series of silk screen printed images based on their theme of “Collections”.

It has been an excellent experience for the students to work alongside a professional artist, learning a new skill.  It has been an exciting culmination of their coursework before the students embark on their external examination project.

Miss Oldham, head of art, said: “You could feel the creative buzz around the art department. There was a real sense of enthusiasm and pride among the students, which was brilliant.

“When it came to the big reveal, you could hear a pin drop whilst they waited for the magical transformation of their design to be printed onto the silk.

“It has been a great experience for all the students in the year group and just reinforces how creative our students at Calder really are.

“This is just the beginning; I am really looking forward to seeing them develop their skills in their exam work.”
