More than a hundred ladies sold, bought and modelled for a charity event to raise money for the Overgate Hospice in Elland.

The event which raised more than £1,000 was the first Ladies’ Night the charity has held and saw 20 stalls at Todmorden Town Hall selling Christmas goodies, handbags, jewellery and more at the weekend.

Fundraiser Beth Kaminski said: “One woman told me that it was the best event she has done all year, the ladies were really generous and I am pleased with how well it did.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who came to the event. The hospice needs £8,500 a day to cover running costs so any support that people can give the hospice is much appreciated.”

Mayor of Todmorden Coun Jayne Booth also held a charity night for the hospice, which is her charity of the year. The night raised over £3,000 which was added to the total raised so far to reach the target of £10,000.

The Mayor’s Charity Night, also at Todmorden Town Hall, featured an auction and disco with a DJ. The auction alone raised £2,000 and the generous bidders were treated to prizes such as an iPad, a helicopter ride and restaurant vouchers.

Overgate Hospice is also asking people to take part in a special Christmas remembrance service at St Mary’s church on December 8 at 3.30pm for the Light Up A Life Appeal. Also they are offering to dedicate a light on the tree of remembrance which stands outside the church, for a donation. The name of your loved one will be displayed at the church on the day and at the hospice in the run-up to Christmas.
