Charity back in business after flood closure
A CHARITY shop has thanked its loyal customers for helping it to get back on its feet 10 weeks after it was devastated by the floods.
As a way of showing their appreciation, staff at the Overgate Hospice Shop, Crown Street, Hebden Bridge, welcomed customers on to its shop floor last week to mark its grand re-opening.
Shop manager Ann-Marie Anderton said: “We are delighted to be back after the floods. I knew it would be a hard slog because a lot of work needed doing, but we have a fantastic team at Overgate. The volunteers have been brilliant and I was never in doubt that we’d be back open again.”
The ground floor of the building had to be completely re-fitted after three foot of water poured through the doors, ruining 50 per cent of the shop’s stock.
Despite the temporary closure, residents continued to donate stock, which had to be stored at different Overgate shops across Calderdale.
The Mayor of Hebden Royd Town Council, Coun Chrsitine Davenport, who officially re-opened the shop, thanked residents for showing great community spirit.
“They have done a really good job here to get back on their feet,” she said. “It was a great honour to open this shop and it’s another business in Hebden Bridge which is back up and running.”
The shop is always on the look out for more volunteers and anyone interested should call Ann-Marie on 01422 844995.
