It’s congratulations to Mrs Elsie Dobbie, who celebrates her 100th birthday today, April 11.
Elsie, who was born in Hampshire, met her husband Brian in the second world war, just before his unit - he served in the Dragoon Guards and Royal Artillery - was sent overseas to India.
After a whirlwind courtship (and once standing him up because he was five minutes late) they married, although Elsie didn’t see her husband again until she joined him in India with their daughter Mary, then only 18 months old.
On returning to England her husband retired from the services and joined the farming community as a head herdsman in Hampshire. They finally moved to Hebden Bridge in the 1950s after purchasing Hill Top Farm at Colden, where she still lives with her family.
She joined Colden School as head cook, retiring in 1978 to join her husband in a well-earned rest.
The couple also had two sons, Peter and David, and she is now the proud grandmother of eight. All her family wish her many more years of happiness.
