Green-fingered residents in Hebden Royd are set for a boost after the town council finally took ownership of the allotment site at Banksfield in Mytholmroyd.

After initially getting the go ahead for an asset transfer of these allotments from Calderdale Council in April last year, the transfer has now been completed and work has already started on site to improve the existing provision and to create new growing spaces.

The council plans to create another five allotments to take the total to 11 and workmen are currently on site installing a water supply.

Other works that will be undertaken at the site include repairing the perimeter fencing, installing a central pathway and installing retaining walls which are essential.

The council has a 50-strong allotment waiting list.
