Back door to learning: Year of arts courses at Northlight

A NEW range of creative courses will be running at "The Back Door" at Northlight Art Studios, Valley Road, Hebden Bridge, in 2010.

Perri Webster will be offering a new course titled "Painting for artists and practitioners", which will enable more experienced artists to develop their work.

Rachel Connor will offer more of her "Essential construction kit for fiction writers" workshops, now studying plot and setting.

"Feat of clay", a three session course providing an introduction to ceramics, will be offered in addition to the regular "Art for the terrified", "Art for the less terrified", "Painting and drawing" and "Creative textiles" courses.

Day workshops on Intaglio printmaking, Nuno feltmaking, experimental weaving, experimental drawing and life drawing for beginners will be also be available.

Following the successful "Approaches to landscape" weekend course last summer, which attracted people from all over the country, more weekend courses are planned including "Abstract painting", "Walking and sketching", "Life Works" – approaches to studying the human figure – and "Approaches to landscape" – sketching and printmaking.

All courses are led by experienced artists and teachers.

There will also be more "Young Back Door" sessions for young artists during the February half term holiday and on three Saturdays in May.

Well-known local artists will be running workshops for young artists aged eight to 14.
