Lovers of Happy Days reunite, “The Fonz” has come to Halifax to film the latest series of the CBBC comedy drama series Hank Zipzer, a show inspired by his book series.

Henry Winkler, or known by many as Arthur Fonzarelli from the 1970s sitcom Happy Days, will spend the next two weeks filming, for his role as Mr Rock on the show, at a school in Halifax.

The 13-episode programme is in its second series and was originally inspired by the book Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever, written by Henry and Lin Oliver.

The show tells the story of Hank Zipper, a 12-year-old boy diagnosed with dyslexia and the challenges he faces at school - a story based on Henry’s own childhood.

“I wasn’t diagnosed with dyslexia until I was 31 years old.

“Hank Zipzer is me. The material is exactly what I lived through.”

Henry plays the role of Mr Rock, his real-life teacher and the only one who seems to understand Hank.

Cheryl Taylor, controller of CBBC, said: “How fabulous for CBBC that the universally loved Henry Winkler has agreed to return as Mr Rock. He has won over a new generation of fans and our young audience will be thrilled to enjoy more adventures with the irrepressible Hank Zipzer.”

The multi-award winning actor has been in Calderdale since Monday and has been enjoying the warm weather.

“I love being here. It is my second time and people are unbelievably warm and I love doing this show.”

Filming for the second series will finish at the beginning of September and it will air in 2015/16.
