Another platform for Hugo’s poetry

HEBDEN Bridge poet Hugo Grundy could win a £1,000 prize after being named one of the three finalists in this year’s John Betjeman Poetry Competition for Young People.

Hugo, 10, has now been invited to read his poem Peter’s Room on the station concourse at St Pancras International, London on National Poetry Day, Thursday, October 4, when actor Richard E. Grant will announce the winner of this year’s competition and present the prizes.

The reading will take place next to the bronze statue of Sir John Betjeman, a former Poet Laureate. Following the prize-giving there will be afternoon tea at the Betjeman Arms.
