The annual Happy Hounds event will be back next Thursday, August 14, a fun afternoon for Calder Valley dogs and their owners at Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge.
The event will be open from noon until 3pm, is being run in by Hebden Royd Town Council in partnership with Calderdale Council and promises to be full of fun with activities for all the family.
The event is organised in response to complaints about irresponsible dog owners, not just in terms of dog fouling, but also badly trained and poorly behaved dogs.
However it is widely recognised that this is a minority of owners, said a spokesperson for the town council.
The majority of dog owners are responsible and this event celebrates all that is wonderful about responsible dog ownership.
“As well as providing a source of information and education this event will highlight some highlight some of the very important roles that dogs play in our society, as well as helpful advice from local dog trainers - just how do you stop your four legged friends jumping up with their over enthusiastic greeting, eating out of the bin and taking you for a walk?” she said.
Ulti-Mutts Agility, part of Positive Pooches, will be running some fantastic demonstrations and a‘Have a go Agility’ event.
There will also be a number of fun dog classes, so come along and join in is the call.
“Part of being a responsible owner is ensuring that your dog is traceable.
“Every year thousands of dogs are lost and never reunited with their owners, micro-chipping can prevent this.
“The Dogs Trust will be at the event providing free micro-chipping.
“Micro-chipping is a must for all dogs and provides a means to reunite them with their owners if they are lost, in an accident or stolen.
“It is hoped that dog owners will take advantage of this opportunity.
“In addition, there will be fun for all the family with demonstrations, information, face painting, and children’s entertainment making it a perfect afternoon out, dog lover or not,” said the spokeswoman.
The Fun Dog Classes will be as follows:
l 12.20pm - Prettiest Bitch and Handsomest Dog
l 12.45pm - Dog with the Waggiest Tail
