Activities highlight anti-bullying week

CALDERDALE Council and schools throughout the borough are promoting an anti-bullying message this week as part of a national campaign.
In the run-up to Anti-Bullying Week 2012, which began on Monday, the council has been working with local schools and other organisations to raise awareness and tackle the issue of bullying.
Throughout the week, schools and youth organisations across Calderdale are running events and activities to highlight the message “We’re better without bullying”.
Stuart Smith, Calderdale Council’s director of children and young people’s services, said: “The council and its health service partners know from comprehensive research that bullying in all its forms is something that is of serious concern for young people of all ages.
“We support all activity that highlights bullying issues throughout the year and are particularly pleased to focus on the issues during Anti-Bullying Week.
“It is really pleasing to see so many schools and youth groups giving this issue serious attention.”
Todmorden High School is raising awareness of the impact of bullying in assemblies all week, led by deputy headteacer Chris Wilcocks.
Year seven students will then be giving presentations in six Todmorden primary schools during the following two weeks.
The school is also training anti-bullying ambassadors.
At Riverside Junior School, Hebden Bridge, each class is making and signing a promises poster which will then be framed and displayed around the school.
Ribbons will be tied to the playground fence to remind everyone of the pledges they have made.
Anti-bullying activities are also taking place at Hebden Royd Primary School.
