Two funeral directors teamed up to help residents remember loved ones they have lost, while raising funds to improve the lives of people with terminal illnesses.
Hebden Bridge Funeral Directors, Valley Funeral Service and Robertshaw Greenwood have raised £162.45 from their annual carol service held at St Michael’s Church, Mytholmroyd.
Manager Chris Sykes said the event was very well attended, with every individual having one thing in common - having sadly lost someone they love and wanting to remember them at Christmas time.
“The carol service is a time to remember the loved ones we have lost at Christmas time and we wanted donations for Overgate Hospice as they are an organisation close to many people’s hearts,” said Mr Sykes.
“We are always so proud and privileged to support them. The care and support they show the community is with passion and pride and those ethics are what we also work to when caring for a loved one.”
An Overgate Hospice spokesperson said: “We are always so grateful for companies and organisations arranging events to support us. We rely on donations from the Calderdale community so much. We now need to raise £6,900 each day to keep the hospice open. Thank you very much to those involved, both organisers and those who attended the event.
“If you would like more information on organising your own event for Overgate Hospice, please call 01422 387121 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.”
The carol service is held every year and is open to all families - not just those who Valley Funeral Service and Robertshaw Greenwood have been called upon to serve.
Mr Syskes added: “Anyone who has suffered a bereavement is welcome to our carol service and we invite everyone to visit our chapels to write a personal message on a star and place on our Christmas tree in memory of their loved one.”
Valley Funeral Service and Robertshaw Greenwood are part of Dignity Caring Funeral Services.
