You might think Lions and Ducks wouldn’t get on together, but over the last few weeks in Todmorden, where you found one, you found the other...

And expect to see a bit more of both about as Todmorden Lions sell their yellow plastic racers for their annual Duck Race along a stretch of the River Calder in Todmorden town centre.

With a French flavour in homage to the Tour De France, the Course de les Canards takes place on Mai 11 with Le Grand Depart at 14.00 heures from Le Pont De Rue Stansfield - roughly translated, Cn Trading of Hebden Bridge will launch the ducks into the water at 2pm this Sunday, May 11, from Central Garage at Stansfield Road Bridge!

Lion Rod Wainwright said ducks will still be for sale on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to noon at Todmorden Market and on Sunday before the race from Central Garage forecourt. The finish of the race is by Hallroyd Flats on Hallroyd Crescent, Todmorden, and you could win a nifty prize - first duck home gets £250, second £75, third £50 and last duck home £25.

Rod said: “This is another Todmorden Lions Club fundraising event with the emphasis on ‘fun’ and entertainment. All money raised goes to Todmorden Lions Club Charity account and is used for the benefit of the people of Todmorden. Donations last year can be viewed on our Facebook page. Later this month as a result of the Lions’ Appeal, a special Sports Wheelchair will be presented to table tennis sportswoman Megan Shackleton which will, we hope, enable her to reach her full potential and hopefully gain selection for the Paralympic games in Rio 2016. Come along and join in the fun.”
