If I could, through your pages highlight the increasing problem of dog messing on the school field at Burnley Road Academy.
The school very kindly leaves the gate unlocked for the local residents to exercise their dogs on the proviso that they clean up after them. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be happening.
I’m sure that there are many responsible dog owners who use the school playing field considerately, and make sure that they watch their animals and then clean up after them.
However, there are obviously some irresponsible owners too, who quite clearly couldn’t care less about the dog mess left behind by their animals.
As a parent of two children at Burnley Road Academy, and also the manager of a team with Hebden Bridge Saints, I find myself on the playing field regularly, particularly every weekend with my junior football team.
Instead of being able to set up and get started straight away, the first 10 minutes or so of every training session and then match day are always taken up by checking the field for the disgusting deposits, and then having to make sure that they are all picked up and the area cleaned before allowing the children to continue.
The sign on the gate is pretty clear, and so is the one from the council. The irresponsible owners are therefore either unable to read, or have a lot of money (to pay the £1000 fine).
Either way, if the dog messing continues, Burnley Road Academy would be well within its right to lock the gates permanently, thereby affecting everyone!
Please would EVERYONE who uses the field pick up their dog mess (and any other litter), to ensure that the field continues to be a clean, tidy and available space for everyone.
