Mytholmroyd Station Partnership and its chairman are helping to put the village on the map after being shortlisted for two national awards.
The partnership has been listed for the Small Project category of the 2013 Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) awards for its Mytholmroyd Community Station Montage – showing some of the hundreds of people who have transformed the village railway station over the last seven years.
While Geoff Mitchell has two nominations in the Photo Competition/Best CR “People in Action” Image category for “Gardening Done - Chat Time” and “Our Young Flower Tub Sponsors”.
The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in Llandudno in late September.
Rather than rest on their success, partnership members are looking forward to the Tour de France and encouraging local artists to get involved with their “Creative and Show of Art project for the benefit of Calderdale residents and the thousands of visitors to Le Tour and festival”.
Partnership secretary Sue Mitchell said: “We have got tentative permission from Northern Rail to put various artwork on the station area, which will include a large mural that will depict the transport through the 80s in Mytholmroyd and cyclists cycling.
“We have also got one of our members who’s a sculptor who is going to produce a cycle with square wheels which we will maybe tether on the cycle rack.
“We also want to do a small handout to give to all the thousands of visitors called ‘The Gritstone Line Gazette’ which will be a trilingual encyclopedia, written in French, the Yorkshire dialect and standard English.”
Painters, poets, photographers and sculptors who would like to meet to discuss possible ideas and funding are asked to email before the end of August.
