Inn the drink...Fountain celebrated

The Fountain players take their dip

The Fountain players take their dip

Twenty years ago Fountain Inn were challenging for the top honours in the Halifax Sunday League.

They certainly didn’t let the weather put them off, and this image displays the conditions. I’m not sure who the plater second from left is but, through the mud, the others look to be, from the left, Colin ambert, Danny Gilfillan and Mark Goldie.

In those days the top two sides locally were Hebden Royd Red Star in Saturday football and Fountain, of Todmorden, on Sundays. It meant the upper valley were dominant in local football at that time and quite a few players played for both teams.

Red Star are still going strong but Fountain had folded by the late 90s following a player shortage.
