Incredible Edible Todmorden column: Half a ton of produce, and out livestock has thrived

It has been a brilliant summer at Incredible Farm, our fourth growing season.

Masses of black grapes fought for space with squashes, Bolivian Coriander, ice plant and Tomatilloes in the pollytunnels. Nearly half a ton of produce has been grown and sold this year, showing that a small farm, well managed can make an impact on the local food supply.

Jed our first apprentice completed his time with us and walked straight into a food growing job, success!

Oldham kids spent a night camping in tents they made up in our land at Lumbuts, they cooked foraged food and explored our spectacular landscape.

The sun shone on our solar panels and water was pumped round our site filling tanks and overflowing into our watercress ponds.

Our flock of geese free ranged around the Walsden valley, exploring the canal and looking like a fairy tale returning home at dusk.

Wildlife thrived; moles and weasels were spotted, owls hooted, hedgehogs munched. Hops were picked and collected by a jolly man on a bicycle to a brewery at Bridestones.

The Princes trust teams were hosted and showed their potential as farmers.

Just yesterday our junior farmers club hosted a visit from the brownies, making them apple juice and crispy kale. It may seem like magic, we can get children to eat cabbage, it’s not, it’s just a normal day at Incredible Farm.
