A Hebden Bridge shop is celebrating after helping to collect more than 7,000 donated items of outdoor clothing nationwide.

Rohan in St George’s Square has been running its ‘Gift Your Gear’ appeal since the beginning of March.

The initiative, set up by Rohan’s co-founder Sarah Howcroft, who went to school in Mytholmroyd, aims to enable people to benefit from life-changing experiences in the great outdoors, regardless of their circumstances.

Store manager David Harris said: “We’ve been encouraging people to bring any unwanted, but usable, outdoor trousers, jackets and fleeces into the shop. These items are now being donated to local community organisations, youth groups and charities for outdoor projects.

“The last time we ran ‘Gift Your Gear’ we got a fantastic response with nearly 6,000 garments being given nationwide so it’s great to beat that figure this year. Our customers have been incredibly generous and some of the items being donated have great stories and histories attached.”
