Bus company First is joining forces with sustainable transport group Greener Journeys to celebrate the ‘Great British Bus’ through the annual campaign Catch the Bus Week in Halifax.

The campaign, which takes place from 29 June – 5 July, aims to drive awareness of the benefits of taking the bus and encourage local people to make the switch from the car.

First, along with Greener Journeys, which is spearheading the campaign, and hundreds of other participants all over the country – including bus companies, passenger organisations and local authorities – will be promoting the many benefits of bus travel.

As part of Catch the Bus Week 2015, the Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Lisa Lambert and the Consort of Calderdale, Mr Ken Lambert joined First at the local bus depot to welcome the first of seven new buses representing a total investment of £1.25m.

The new StreetLite single deck vehicles will all come fitted with leather seats, CCTV and Wi-Fi providing customers with free internet access during their journey. The new Euro6 buses are all Department for Transport ‘low carbon certified’, making them amongst the most fuel efficient buses on the market.
