Everybody needs good neighbours

Refugee Week Calderdale's Neighbours' Day (People's Park, Saturday, July 9, 11am-4pm), once again serves up a feast of live music and dance, with a talented cast of multicultural performers, presented by Phoenix.fm.

The entertainment starts with the drums, whistles and other ear-catching sounds of Sambalifax followed by a variety of music, song and dance provided by local groups including High Five Singers, Magpie Movers, The Happy Choir, Breakaway Brass, Calder Valley Voices, The Halifax Roma Band, the Crow Hill Stompers and the ever popular Bazzmatazz.

International, Guinness world record breaking and multi-award winning Ri Ri’s Dance Academy will wow the crowds with its exhilarating fusion Bollywood dance performances.

The National Television Dancers from the company will be showcasing a range of styles from break dancing to Bollywood to ballet.

And Director and Guinness World Breaking Choreographer, Ria, will also, be running a fun basic Bollywood Dance Workshop for the audience.

Providing a spectacular and energetic finale to the day will be performances and workshops with the Bhangra Dancers and Dhol player from Punjabi Roots Academy.

“There will be something for everyone of all ages.” said organising team member Brenda Hodgson.

Other attractions include a community market, face-painting, Mehndi hand painting, a Poets Corner, inflatables, penalty shootout, hula hoops, sports exercise, youth bus, beauty and alternative therapists, Lion Learners Educational Experience, Eureka!, and a visit from Pudsey Bear. Plus food from around the world.
