This is the weekend when you are invited to celebrate with the new Mayor of Luddenden - and indulge in some fun ranging from a straw bale race to a duck race!

On Saturday, September 13, the honorary Mayorality, will be handed over from John Smith to Terry Tiernan, and an enjoyable family day out is in store, centred around the Lord Nelson pub and Church Hill in the village.

Terry will take over the role around 1pm, with the straw bale race getting under starters orders from 2pm - there are trophies to be won in this, as well as a £100 main prize. There’s also a pint at the top of the steep cobbled route for every runner.

To register for the straw bale race email thelordnelsonukcom@gmail.com or visit the pub which is in the heart of the village. Entry to it is £5 and proceeds over go to charity.

There is plenty of other fun to be had, including a duck race, raffles, stalls and games with which to keep everyone entertained.

Anyone interested in taking a stall is asked to contact Craig Oates by emailing craig.oates@accenture.com or call him on 07825 423610.

The village’s Mayorality is a grand old tradition, with Terry becoming the 151st Mayor on Saturday.

The celebrations traditionally go on until late. Get ready for a great day’s entertainment!
