A catastrophe has been averted after a kitten was rescued from a 30ft tree by volunteers after being stuck there for more than 24 hours.

Iris, the kitten, had been stuck up the tree in Hebden Bridge Woods - Salem Field - since the early hours of yesterday morning.

After Iris had failed to come down over night, the owner Laura Neve Tacey took to Twitter as a last resort.

Volunteers from around Hebden Bridge and the RSPCA were down at the site within two hours and eventually managed to rescue the kitten using a net.

Iris has been taken to the vets for some routine checks.
