A businesswoman is going back to the future with her new business and trying to revive the fabric industry in the upper Calder Valley.
Elaine Dale has opened fabric and quilt supplies shop The Quilt Cabin on Albert Street, Hebden Bridge, and is now hoping to inspire a fabric revolution.
Elaine, who used the run the business from her home in Hampshire before relocating to Hebden Bridge, said she was also looking to run courses in quilting - taking advantage of her long-arm quilting machine - and host other tutors.
“The main part of the business is for people to come in and buy their own material. The fabric is 100 per cent cotton so it’s not just for patchwork, people buy it to make clothes and other garments,” said Elaine, who has spent her entire career in the fabric and fashion industry.
“But I want people to able to enjoy what we have got here and get involved with what we’re doing. There will be ongoing classes. I’m starting out with beginners classes, but over time I’m doing the block of the month where we do something different each time.
“If I can get other local people interested and they come in to do something with quilting - because I don’t want to do anything with knitting or sewing because I know there are other businesses in the area which do that - then I’d be happy to host them.
“I want to showcase the talent of other teachers. I want people to enjoy what we have got here and to be able to share what their good at. The Calder Valley is becoming the capital of fabrics in Yorkshire and that’s something that I want to build on and encourage.”
