It was the end of an era as a historic family business closed last weekend.

At 5.25pm on Saturday, the last day of existence of 110-year-old Hebden Bridge business Harold Crabtree’ Mrs Duranczyk from neighbouring and almost equally historic local business, T & G Duranczyk, jewellers of Hope Street, popped in – amongst dozens of others - to say goodbye to Lynn and Fran in the shop and, on her way out, spied – amongst the two or three pairs of shoes remaining in the shop - a pair of sneaker shoes which took her fancy.

It felt like a vote of thanks and farewell of the most professional kind

Hebden Bridge resident Angela Cairns, who took these pictures, said: “She made the very last sale of this august business and in its last five minutes of trading. It felt a bit like a vote of thanks and farewell of the most professional kind.”

Mrs Duranczyk is pictured being fitted for the last-ever-sold shoes by Fran Crabtree.
