FEEDBACK questionnaires have been posted round households near the old Hebden Bridge fire station to gauge reaction to the Secret Garden Party, which turned the derelict site into a thriving community garden.
The yard in Valley Road was taken over last Bank Holiday by hundreds of people, many helping to plant up six raised beds. The beds have been watered and tended ever since and are now brimming with healthy vegetables, herbs and flowers.

The party was organised by the Hebden Bridge Transition Town group to encourage local good growing and to raise the issue of land use in the area. The site is ear- marked to become another car park.

The team has been out knocking on doors to ask people what they think of the use made of the yard.

Many people are in favour of the idea.

Some residents in the streets of terrace houses opposite the fire station said they would love to have a space like this in the town centre, to grow food and plants because their homes have no gardens and the allotment waiting list is very long.

Anyone wanting to comment on the event or what should happen next to the garden should go to the website and add their thoughts. www.hebdenbridgetransitiontown.org.uk
