THE birthplace of the late Poet Laureate Ted Hughes - 1, Aspinall Street, Mytholmroyd - is the officially opened by Simon Armitage, the patron of the Elmet Trust on Saturday, June 21.
The Elmet Trust, set up two years ago to celebrate the life and work of Ted Hughes in the place of his birth has worked with Yorkshire Forward and Calderdale Council to refurbish the house once occupied by Ted Hughes and his family.
Months of renovation to recreate Ted Hughes' early childhood home is coming to an end. Fitted with modern appliances and decorated in a 1930s style, the house will soon be opened as a writer's retreat and holiday home. It is expected that it will attract people from all over the world who are interested in Ted Hughes and wish to enjoy the uniqueness of Mytholmroyd and the landscape of the Calder Valley, which once inspired our famous son.
All proceeds made from the letting of the house will go to The Elmet Trust, a locally based not-for-profit organisation that runs The Ted Hughes Project in Mytholmroyd.
The Elmet Trust is hosting a seven day festival in Mytholmroyd between October 22-28 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Ted Hughes's death.
