THIS Saturday, sees the official re-opening of Heptonstall Museum with a brand new exhibition and community space.
The new-look museum provides information and displays about the local area, from prehistoric times to the present day, and features important stories such as the Cragg Vale Coiners and the Battle of Heptonstall.
The launch event, from 11am to 3.3
0pm, is included in the usual admission price and offers an art and craft session, a chance to meet the museum's curators and a Mystery Objects handling session – with the chance to win a free family ticket to Shibden Hall.
It marks the culmination of a twelve-month community history project, which saw Calderdale Council work alongside local groups to re-define the museum as a focus point for the local community and a centre for interpreting the surrounding area.
The project, funded by Renaissance Yorkshire, includes a community space, with the opportunity to investigate the history of the area in more detail, using oral histories and photographs. There is display space for local schools and groups and access to local history resources, archives and photographs through a touch-screen computer.
The project also included essential maintenance work on the building, resulting in a fresh and vibrant-looking museum.
