THOUSANDS went quakers for an annual duck race.
Revellers of the annual Rotary duck race which is supported by the local business association watched on as 5,000 plastic yellow ducks were released from St George’s Bridge into Hebden Water on Easter Monday.

Despite the snowy showers around 4,000 people watched the ducks dash along before crossing the finish line just before West End Bridge.

Hebden Bridge Rotary Club, president, Peter Layfield described the event as the best so far.

He said: “We would like to thank all of the businesses and other groups that have supported us with this event.

“Everyone had an enjoyable day and we are thankful that the weather was good despite the early Easter.

“I think it was probably the best ever race on record.”

Families stayed in the town throughout the day and enjoyed street entertainment by jugglers, and face painters and even had the chance to take part in the fun fair.

The first duck past the post prize was won by Sarah Myas from Hebden Bridge who received £300.

Money raised from the event will go to local charities and needy groups.
