FOR MANY years Bobbin Cottage was nothing more than a glorified garage, housing bit-part machinery from Pecket Well Mill.
But now the 250-year old former weaver’s cottage has been transformed from the dilapidated shell it had become into a fully-restored home.
Skilled craftsman were called in to renovate the property as part of the Pecket Well Mill restoration programme run by Mango Homes.
They removed a huge garage door at the gable end of the building and rebuilt a wall stone by stone with original materials.
Built around 1750, the cottage predates the mill by more than 100 years and was originally two Weavers Cottages. However the building was left to the elements long before the mill closed in 1989.
Underneath the grim exterior, chamfered mullion windows and ancient oak beams lurked, and along with deep stone window sills and stonework, has been brought back to life.
It features a hand crafted kitchen, solid oak polished floors and a working stone fireplace.
