LIBERAL Democrats have selected local business man Karl Boggis and the Royd Regeneration company secretary, Jade Smith to fight the Hebden Royd Town Council by-elections in the Mytholmroyd wards of Caldene and White Lee on Thursday March 6.
The by-elections follows the resignations of Liberal stalwarts, Harry and Betty Ward, from the town council.

Calderdale and town councillor Christine Bampton-Smith said:”The Liberal Democrats are delighted to have two local and committed candidates for this by-election.”

Karl who was born and bred in Hebden Royd, is a former member of Hebden Bridge Round Table, who organise the annual community bonfire on Calder Holmes Park and is now an active member of Friendly Rotary Club.

Since the age of sixteen Karl has been a keen amateur dramaticist performing with St Michael’s Amateurs and Hebden Bridge Light Opera.

Jade, who joined Royd Regeneration 18 months ago, has organised local bulb planting events, litter picking, the hanging baskets scheme which will flower in Mytholmroyd this spring and the Walkers are Welcome initiative.

She said: “I am fed up with Mytholmroyd being in the shadow of Hebden Bridge and if elected aim to increase the resources for the village - it is time Mytholmroyd had its share of the pot.” Karl, equally adamant, added: “I’ve grown up in Mytholmroyd and watched it slowly fall behind Hebden Bridge, it’s time to divert more resources to Mytholmroyd.”

Polling takes place, for White Lee ward at St Michael’s Church Hall and for Caldene ward at Mytholmroyd Community Centre.
